5 Easy Steps to Find Happiness in Yourself

how to find happiness in yourself

How to be happy – is there an easy solution that can mean everybody will be happy? Of course not, we are all looking for different things within our lives. However, if we can learn to accept ourselves for who we are, then finding happiness will be a much easier task that we are more likely to accomplish successfully.

So, how do you go about accepting who you are, becoming comfortable in your own body and beginning that search for happiness? Well, there are a number of different things that you can try.

Meditate to improve well-being

Meditation is one of the easiest things that you can try. It involves no special equipment and requires no training. Find a quiet room that you can sit in, close your eyes, and focus only on your breathing. Breathe in and out, slowly. Push all other thoughts out of your mind, and ignore any sounds that you can hear. The purpose of this is to relax your mind and rid yourself of the stress of everyday life. As you slip into a light state of meditation, you will feel more at peace.

Regular meditation increases the levels of a number of neurotransmitters in your body. One of the most notable of these is serotonin. Serotonin levels are often too low in people who suffer from depression, so if your levels are depleted, this could partially explain why finding happiness is more difficult. Another important neurotransmitter is GABA, which also promotes well-being. The levels of both of these can be raised naturally by regular meditation.

Combine meditation with physical activity

If meditation alone does not hold enough appeal for you, then think about signing up for a yoga, Pilates or tai chi class. This combines meditation with physical movement, so it offers the benefits of meditating and helps to strengthen and tone your body at the same time. If body issues are part of what makes you unhappy, then this could be the ideal solution for you.

Get active

Being physically active causes your body to produce endorphins, a natural painkiller that also results in the feeling known as runner’s high. Endorphins will naturally help you to feel much better than you did prior to exercising, and the effects will be long lasting if you exercise on a regular basis. exercise does not have to involve going to the gym – if you would prefer to take up dancing, cycling, football or any other active sport, then that will have the same benefits. Aerobic exercise raises your heart rate and improves blood flow, which will, over time, help you to get fitter and feel better.

If you can do both exercise and meditation, then your levels of endorphins will be even higher, as both lead to increased production of these chemicals.

Be sociable

People are generally happier when they are around friends, so make sure you get out and meet up with people on a regular basis. Go for lunch, shopping, watch a film – it doesn’t matter what you do, but see and talk to people.

Find something you are passionate about

Everybody should have something that they love doing, that causes them to light up when they think or talk about it. Try as many new activities as you can, and find the one that you are passionate about. Don’t just keep it to yourself, though; join a local club and meet like-minded people who share your passion.

These are just a few suggestions for finding happiness within yourself, but if you give them a go, you should find that you start to feel better, especially if you keep doing them regularly.
