7 Alternative Healing Methods – The Unconventional Cure

By

Medicine has seen a lot of developments and has achieved a lot of milestones. Diseases which were deemed incurable or accursed are now easily treatable. However, due to personal preferences or even failed conventional approaches, people turn to other alternative healing methods to ease pain and cure illnesses. Some of the most popular ways of alternatively healing illnesses are stated below.

1. Hypnosis

Hypnosis has been a reason for endless debates and confusion for decades if not centuries. Scientists and researchers still don’t have a pattern on how hypnotism works, they claim it is not for everybody. It is generally believed that comparatively hypnosis works better on people who believe in the procedure. Hypnotists, with the help of extreme relaxation techniques and elevated imagination, put their patient in a state of altered consciousness. Hypnosis can not only relieve pain, but can also help a person quit smoking or go on a diet or relieve stress.

2. Meditation

Meditation is often confused with religious activity, however in reality it cannot be further from the truth. Meditation is not about believing in good things, it is about understanding and respecting your body’s and mind’s needs. Meditation is one of the most widely used forms of alternative medicine in the United States according to the National Institutes of Health. Studies have shown substantial and positive results in relieving stress, depression, asthma and regulated blood pressure through meditation.

3. Acupuncture

Acupuncture had been practiced in China for thousands of years, however, it has gained worldwide popularity in recent times. The procedure involves placing needles at 400 specific points in the body to relieve pain.

Another alternative is acupressure, where instead of needles pressure is applied at specific points. This treatment however is widely criticized for not having substantial results.

4. Ayurveda

Ayurveda is primarily practiced in India and is gradually gaining momentum all around the world. Ayurveda focuses mostly on the harmony between the mind, body and soul and stems from the belief that most ailments are a result of internal imbalances. Ayurvedics also use traditional herbs and ingredients for relieving pain. This too is a debatable practice and researchers suggest consulting professional practitioners before using ayurvedic medicines. However, non-medication practices are pretty harmless as they mainly focus on harmonizing body and mind.

5. Homeopathy

Homeopathy has its roots in Germany, and like most alternative healing methods, believes in internal peace as well as treatment. Homeopathy focuses on individualistic needs and treats each patient differently and with varying medication and meditation methods. Medicines mostly comprise of herbs and other plant-based medications along with yoga and other meditation practices. Homeopathy for the most part deals with small ailments like allergies, temporary pains and stomach problems.

6. Yoga

Yoga not only helps in weight reduction as generally perceived but also has various health benefits like relieving stress and anxiety and combating depression and preventing diabetes and blood pressure. More and more people are turning towards yoga for a healthier lifestyle.

7. Massages

Massages are hardly considered as alternative healing methods, they are mostly looked upon as a guilty pleasure. Although, the truth is that massages help combat pain and ease muscles which not only lead to curing pain but also prevent illnesses. Specific massage treatments help with cancer treatments as well as in reducing pain of fibromyalgia. Massages for the most part are safe practices without any health risks or side effects. They may lead to sore muscles or temporary pain, but other than that are a safe practice.

Most of the above mentioned are just alternatives and are mostly used as extra pain relieving methods. You should visit your physician or doctor before using any of these practices, especially if they involve medications.
