Do you want to reach new levels personally? Are you looking for ways to make yourself better than you already are?

While it’s always important to accept and love who you are, it’s also great to want to improve yourself. There’s nothing at all wrong with working to be better in certain areas of your life. So, what can you do today that will help you become a better person?

Give to others. There is no act more selfless than giving of yourself purely for the sake of wanting to help someone else. You can donate time, money, goods or services to those in need. You can volunteer to help a friend, a neighbor, a local charity or a global organization. It’s up to you where you choose to give, just pick something that is close to your heart and you’ll feel great satisfaction.

Befriend someone. Take the time to get to know someone that you wouldn’t normally interact with. Maybe it’s someone that is always having a coffee by themselves when you go get your morning cup, or perhaps it’s someone that’s just sitting alone on a park bench. Not everyone is comfortable approaching others, so they may appreciate that you make the first move and care enough to ask them how their day is.

Meditate. It’s hard to be a better person if you aren’t using your full potential. So, clear your mind of all your stress and worry so you can focus on making positive changes. When you meditate, you let go of the things that hold you back and make room for the things that will move you forward.

Continuously learn. The more you know, the more capable you are of handling life, so incorporate learning as part of your daily routine. It will make you more well-rounded you’ll find it easier to navigate through life. Strive to learn at least one new thing every day.

Spend quality time with loved ones. Not just time, but quality time. Show them that they’re a priority to you. Everyone gets so busy with work, home and school obligations that sometimes we forget to slow down and take care of the things that matter most. Yet, by making our relationships more solid and secure we become better as individuals because we have created a strong, supportive base of family and friends.

Think before you speak. If you’re impulsive, you may say or do something that you regret in the heat of the moment that makes you not feel so good about yourself. So, if something upsets or excites you, make sure you take time to think about your response before you react. Breathe and process the situation so that you can create an appropriate response.

Listen more than you talk. Sure, it’s great to share how wonderful you are with people, but true value lies in how wonderful people feel when they’re with you. Take the time to listen when they speak. Ask questions. Keep the conversation about them.

And, don’t spend the entire time that they’re talking trying to formulate your response and not even listening to what they’re saying. You’ll get your chance to speak, but let them have their chance too. Who knows, you may learn something about them you never knew.

Be positive. No one likes being around someone who is negative all the time. If you want to be a better person, promote positivity. Give words of encouragement. Help motivate and inspire others to be the best that they can be. The great thing about positivity is that it acts as a boomerang. When you send positivity out, you get positivity back.

It’s not that hard to be a better person. All it takes is a desire and some well-placed energy. So, pick your strategy and make a conscious decision every morning to be better than you were yesterday. Soon, you’ll be greater than you ever thought you could be.
