How to Increase Will Power

how to increase will power

Will power involves two major aspects of human behavior: self-discipline and self-control. Self-discipline can be defined as the training and control of oneself and one’s conduct; this is usually done for the purpose of personal development. On the other hand, self-control refers to the ability of a person to exercise his or her will over self-consciousness, shyness, or impulsiveness.

Exercise Mind Control

The human mind is considered the source of all power for the whole body: physically, emotionally, and mentally. It is where everything begins: a thought becomes a belief, and a belief becomes action. Therefore, it is important to capture every thought to subjection to your control. Do not ever let any negative thought or idea take its place in your mind in order to avoid giving it foothold on your emotions and actions eventually.
Mind control is effectively honed by meditation. Stop everything that you are doing; this is most effective at the beginning of the day. Shut off any outside stimulus or noise. Focus and look inside yourself and screen everything that comes into your mind. You have to decisively refuse any entrance of anything that is negative such as sad experiences, hurts, regrets, hate, bitterness, and pride. Only allow in things that edify such as the good, true, and beautiful thoughts derived from joyful experiences, forgiveness, love, and hope.

Identify Your Strengths and Weakness

Couple mind control with understanding of your own personal make up. By this time in your life, you may have an idea of what you are good at and what you are not. Do not go into the trouble of comparing yourself with other people. Remember, you are a unique individual and you alone can help yourself.
Maximize on your strengths and learn to accept your weaknesses. If there is a chance for you to change your weakness into strength, then pursue it. However, if you cannot change your weaknesses, accept them as part of your imperfection; and let your strengths cover up for these weak spots. For instance, if you are not good at dancing, you can go into sports and specialize in that. Moreover, if you are not physically strong, you can develop other skills that can be done indoors or mentally.

Love Yourself

Most of the times, the greatest hindrance to one’s success is his or her inability to accept himself or herself. This can be a product of low self-esteem or the inability to forgive the self for past failures or hurts. It has been said that you cannot fully love others if you do not love yourself. It may be difficult to understand self-love for some people confuse it with selfishness. Loving one’s self comes from knowing your strengths and weaknesses, accepting yourself wholeheartedly, and taking care of yourself so that you are mentally and physically fit. In addition, be at peace with yourself; forgive yourself and treat yourself the way you want others to treat you. This may sound difficult at first but with the right mindset, it will come naturally.

Believe In Yourself

Loving self comes also from believing in yourself. It has been said that if you do not believe in yourself, it would be difficult to win the respect of others for it shows in your performance. Likewise, if you do not love yourself, who will? All of the positive feelings and actions must first come from within you. The principle of sowing and reaping is applicable in this case. What you do to yourself and to others will be returned to you; so when you think positively, positive things will happen to you because people and circumstances will repay you with the same stimulus you send out.
