Mind Exercises – Why They Are Important?

If you have ever wondered about your IQ level and whether you can improve it, then read on. It is definitely possible to improve your IQ level if you are prepared to work hard, as although the mind exercises themselves are fairly simple, you do need to do them on a regular basis, preferably every day.

Brain training games – do they work?

Recently, the number of brain training games available on the market has increased dramatically, and each of them claims to improve your IQ when they are used on a daily basis. These brain training games offer a range of different challenges, and can definitely be used as part of your mind exercises. However, when you can complete them quickly and easily, they stop being effective. This is the stage at which you need to increase the difficulty and find a different challenge, or your brain will simply become accustomed to the activity, and any improvements will be lost. A continual challenge is needed to keep the brain active and keep the processing power on the increase.

Meditation to increase mind power

You may not be aware of this, but meditation is actually one of the most effective ways to increase the power of your mind. Meditation is now known to increase amounts of both the grey and white matter in the brain, which increases the ease with which information can be processed, and also the number of connections that are being made. It promotes whole brain synchronisation, where the two hemispheres of the brain work together, and this is more efficient than either side working independently.

Meditation, when a light state is achieved, produces alpha brainwaves, which promote learning and the processing of large volumes of information. A slightly deeper state of meditation causes theta brainwaves to be produced, and this is ideal for problem solving or making decisions based on intuition.

Exercise your body and mind together

If the benefits of meditation appeal to you, but you don’t think you are the kind of person who can sit still and focus for long enough, then try a form of exercise that incorporates meditation. Yoga and tai chi are ideal for this – your mind can focus on the smooth, flowing movements and stretches, instead of your breathing. This gives you all of the benefits of meditation while also helping to strengthen and tone your body.

Exercise your body too

Although yoga and tai chi can help you to achieve the benefits of meditation, looking after your body is equally important. Aerobic exercise is great for both keeping in shape and relieving stress or tension, so make sure you do something active on a regular basis. Stress will have a very negative impact on your mind, and stop you from being able to function as effectively, so doing something about it as soon as you can is important.

Think about what you are eating

If you really want to exercise your mind, then you will also need to take a close look at what you are eating. A diet that is high in processed foods will not provide all of the vitamins and antioxidants that are needed in order for the brain to function at its most effective. Try eating a variety of fruits and vegetables in order to help your brain to operate more efficiently. Omega 3 fatty acid, found primarily in oily fish such as salmon, will also be very helpful.

Mind exercises, when carried out regularly, can help to improve the functioning of your brain, and also give you a higher IQ level.
