What To Do Today – Improving Your Life

what to do today

For many people, each day is very similar and they have an established routine, which generally involves working Mondays to Fridays. However, the problem with this is that it can become extremely tedious, especially if you don’t really find your job interesting any more.

Finding small, easy things that you can do to liven up your day can make a huge difference, improving your mood and making you feel much better. This will also have a positive impact on your work, as you will feel more refreshed and be able to work more efficiently and enthusiastically than you did previously.

Challenging your brain

Challenge your brain by attempting a logic puzzle, Sudoku or crossword each day. This will help you to make full use of your memory and brain power, also benefiting your work as you utilise your mind more effectively. You can use this to help improve your IQ level too; as you notice the puzzles becoming easier, or you complete them more quickly, try a different type or a more difficult challenge.

Don’t stay at your desk all day

It is important that you take regular breaks. You are entitled to do this during your working day, so each time you are able to have a break, get up and move away from your desk. This will give you a much-needed respite where you don’t have to think about the job, and can leave the stress of work behind you for a while. When you return, you will often be able to look at any problems with a clearer mind, and develop solutions much more easily.

Get some exercise

Being physically active is a great way to improve your health and well being. Start small, perhaps taking the stairs instead of the lift, and build up your level of activity gradually. Try going for a walk each day, then build up the distance over a period of time. Consider going swimming, cycling or joining a dance or exercise class. There are so many different options when it comes to physical activity, so find something that you enjoy, as you are more likely to stick with it. This increased activity, even if it is just a little bit each day, will have tremendous benefits for your health, and will help to improve your mood as well. Exercise causes endorphins to be released into the bloodstream – these are the chemicals responsible for the feeling known as “runner’s high”, and they also act as a natural painkiller.

Take up meditation, yoga or tai chi

Meditation has been used for hundreds of years to promote calmness and relaxation. It can either be practised on its own or in combination with exercises, such as in yoga and tai chi. Some people find that the exercise helps them to relax, while others prefer simply focusing on their breathing during meditation.

Whichever you prefer, meditation offers a wide range of benefits, some of which may surprise you. It is an excellent way to help relieve stress, partly because it involves blocking out everything except for your breathing, and partly because of the effect it has on the body. Meditation raises the levels of a number of important chemicals in the body, which has the effect of improving well being and creating a more cheerful mood. These chemicals include serotonin, GABA and DHEA, each of which can lead to mental health problems if the levels fall too low.

These are just a few simple suggestions on changes you can make to your everyday life to make you feel better. There are many other alternatives that you can also try, but whatever you choose, you should make sure you do it regularly for the best effects.
