5 Ways to Ensure You Have the Best Day Ever
Do you want to have a good day today? Tomorrow too? And the next? Would you like to know how to make every day a day the best day ever?
Nothing is worse than having a day when it seems like everything goes wrong. Every time you turn around a hurdle is in your way and you wonder why you can’t seem to catch a break.
While it may seem like everything is outside of your control, there are things you can do to make your days better. No, you can’t stop everything bad that happens, but what does it hurt to stop what you can?
Here are five ways to ensure that you have the best day ever:
#1 – Stay in the moment
Nothing can rob your happiness more than not being present to enjoy the moment. If you spend more time thinking about past situations or worrying about future events than you do focusing on where you are right now, you’re missing out on life.
No matter what you’re doing, focus all of your thoughts and energy on it. If you’re eating, concentrate only on the food in front of you. If you’re playing with your children, don’t let your mind wander to your to-do list. And, quit multitasking. Yes, it’s hard but the payoff is huge. You get greater enjoyment out of things if you’re fully engaged in them.
#2 – Count your blessings
If you want a good day, point out all the things that make it good. Be thankful for healthy family members, jobs that pay the bills and keep food on the table and homes that keep you safe and warm. Express gratitude for everything that is right in your life.
Don’t neglect the blessings that aren’t outwardly positive either. Sometimes you have to dig a little deeper to find the positive in a circumstance that has a negative appearance. For instance, if you’re working on a difficult project at work, maybe you could be thankful that it’s helping you build your strength by challenging your mind.
#3 – Take time for yourself
Some people feel that it can’t be a good day without working sun up to sun down and being extremely productive. However, if you don’t take time to breathe, you may lose yourself in the process.
One way to brighten your day is to do something just for you. Spend time in the garden if you enjoy the flowers. Sit down and read a book and get lost in the story. Meditate to clear your mind of all the negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. Just pick something you enjoy and do it just for you.
#4 – Smile
Even if you don’t feel like it, turn up the corners of your mouth, put on a smile and fake it. In no time at all, you won’t have to pretend because you will automatically feel happier. It’s like your mind follows your body’s direction.
Plus, as a bonus, when you smile at others they usually smile back. It’s contagious. And, how can you not be happy and have a good day when everyone you meet sends a beaming grin your way?
#5 – Do something for someone else
If you want to feel good about you, then do something good for someone else. When you help others, it creates a positive rush of energy in your body that acts as a bad day repellent. You feel so darn good, nothing negative is getting to you.
It doesn’t have to be a big something either. It can be as small as saying hi to a stranger on the street or holding the door for someone as they enter a building. You can buy a coffee for the person behind you in line at the coffee shop or put a quarter in someone else’s expired parking meter.
Of course, you don’t have to stay small if you don’t want to. You can volunteer for an organization that helps people in your community if you want to do more. Or, donate money or goods to people in need.
Whether you have a good day or bad is your choice. Now, you have all you need to know to make the right one. So, how about it? Ready to have the best day ever?
