1. What is Spiritual Awareness?

There is no simple or straight-forward answer to the question “What is spiritual awareness?” It is subjective depending on your beliefs and means different things for different people.

Some people believe that spiritual awareness is being closer to nature. Others believe it is a profound inner change in their thoughts and way of being. Others believe it is a greater understanding about life.

A spiritual awareness often means that people start thinking of themselves less than as an individual, but more as being part of a wider system. They recognise that all things spring from the same source and share a connection. Spiritual awareness can also be described as an increase of conscious awareness.

You must examine your own thoughts, feelings and experiences for a true understanding of spiritual awareness.

2. Can a Person be Spiritually Asleep?

Consciousness is always awake, but the level may be different in different people. It is important that people seek to connect their conscious minds with their subconscious minds and try to ensure that they are living a fully conscious existence in order to increase spiritual awareness.

3. Can I Attain Full Awareness?

Some belief systems say that a person rarely attains full awareness, but becomes aware gradually by taking small steps on the road to full awareness. Awareness levels can therefore vary, depending on where a person is on the path to being truly aware and enlightened.

4. What is a Spiritually Aware Person Like?

This is, again, different depending upon the individual. Those who are more aware have a greater understanding, compassion and respect for the world and all things in it. They are able to rise above feelings of greed, hatred, jealousy, resentfulness and despair. They are calmer, more at peace, and have an understanding about their higher life purpose. As a result, spiritual awareness can have a positive impact upon health, decreasing the likelihood of suffering from stress, anxiety and depression.

5. Must I be Religious to Become Spiritually Aware?

Spiritual awareness is not linked to any religion in particular. People can be spiritual without being religious, and spiritual awareness can be attained regardless of any religious affiliations or devotional practices. Some people do find though that they use religion as a vehicle to obtain awareness.

6. How Can I Become More Spiritually Aware?

Meditation is often useful for those seeking to become more spiritually aware, as it clears the mind and removes clutter, allowing for true and calm inner reflection and understanding. It also helps people to release fears and change negative thought patterns, both of which are essential to become aware.

Let go of attachments, either to people or material things. Emotional ties that keep you chained in unhappy situations should be severed. This is not to say that you should live the life of a loner, but rather that you should feel content within yourself, fulfilled by yourself and able to create your own happiness instead of relying on other people or things to make you feel complete or worthy. First and foremost, you should love, respect and cherish yourself.

Live the life that you want to live. Live it with regard to other people, but not for other people. Stop worrying about what society expects from you, and do not bend to accommodate the demands of society if they are not true to your beliefs.

7. Can I Accelerate the Process?

Spiritual awareness is a gradual process. There are many things to learn about the self and about the world. The process cannot be rushed nor forced.

Seek awareness and enlightenment, but not to the detriment and neglect of other activities. Live a good life and be patient. Take steps to make yourself ready to receive knowledge and wisdom. Sometimes, the more aggressively awareness is pursued, the harder it becomes to reach.

8. What Signs Should I Watch For?

There are many signs associated with entering a higher spiritual state and being more aware. These signs may include changing sleep patterns, vivid dreams that sometimes seem to try to give you messages, and fluctuating moods and emotions. Changes in energy levels are common, with one day seeing you full of energy and the following lethargic and unwilling to do much. The five senses may somehow feel different and there could be an increase in extra-sensory abilities and perceptions, including telepathic communications with other people, spirits or angels, heightened intuition, the ability to astral project and an increase in healing powers. You may start to notice more coincidences, and the appearance of guides or mentors to help you on your spiritual journey. Your interests will probably change, as will your personal relationships.
