Being stressed is not an enjoyable feeling. You have a hard time relaxing, your blood pressure can go up, and you are often just uncomfortable all around. Stressors in our lives can come from any number of places. Work, money trouble, and relationships are the most common causes of high stress levels. Even if you are dealing with difficulties in these areas of your life, there are steps you can take to reduce stress levels so that you are able to enjoy the day to day routine of life. Give the following six ideas some careful consideration and determine which ones may be able to help you.

– De-Clutter. Our minds naturally enjoy order and open space. When our living areas get disorganized and cluttered up, it puts undue stress on our brains. We are always trying to make sense of every environment we are in – and it’s challenging to make much sense out of a messy room. Keep your house in order to quickly reduce your stress levels. If you have a lot of things and don’t want to get rid of them completely, consider renting a storage unit or using attic space to store some things out of sight.

– Regular Me Time. As a part of your daily schedule, set aside time to just simply do something you enjoy. It doesn’t have to be anything big, and doesn’t need to cost money. It could be something like doing a puzzle, watching part of a favorite movie, or even just sitting down to a good cup of coffee. Don’t cut out this valuable time when you are feeling squeezed. Brief mental breaks to get away from the stresses of daily life are vital to your overall well-being.

– Be with Nature. The outdoors is a great natural stress reliever, and beautiful places are all around us. You can plan a trip to a destination spot, or just take a quick walk through the local park. Whatever way you choose to reach out to nature, do so minus your technology. Leave the cell phone off (or better, leave it home) and just enjoy the peace and serenity of your surroundings. You can feel the stress leaving your body even just thinking about being out in a great natural setting.

– Shut off the Tube. There is nothing wrong with watching TV in small doses, but it can actually be a big cause of stress if left on too often. Broadcast news is filled with depressing stories, and there is nothing you can do about most of them anyway. Instead of letting yourself get stress out by the stock market updates, just walk away. Try to schedule your television watching time in short segments. Pick a favorite show or two to watch regularly, catch just a few minutes of the news, and leave it off other than that.

– Share Your Stress. We all have stresses, and sharing them with others can be a great relief. Arrange with one of your close friends to have regular phone calls that serve to just get things off your mind. Make this a routine and be supportive of each other. You will be amazed at how much less stress you feel simply by talking it out and sharing your worries with someone who understands.

– Meditate. One of the easiest ways to feel stress is to never stop and talk to yourself about how you are feeling. Life can run out of control if we let it. Meditation is a way of hitting the ‘pause’ button and letting our minds catch up with the world around us. Make quiet meditation a regular part of your schedule and you will successfully reduce your stress levels sooner rather than later.
